Here's a short video of the POD Training we had on 1.27.18The first hybrid POD training in a local Gwinnett congregation was conducted by the Gwinnett, Newton & Rockdale County Health Department (GNR) in Suwanee, GA. Should a public health threat occur here in Metro-Atlanta, Point of Dispensing organizations (or PODs) are vital in helping to save millions of lives. There are 1.1 Million residents in Gwinnett, Newton & Rockdale counties compared to 300+ public health workers. Mark Reiswig, Director of Emergency Preparedness for GNR Department of Public Health states: In order for local health departments to fulfill their mandate to provide critical medications and/or vaccines in a timely manner to the public in the event of a public health threat, it is crucial for us to have tremendous support from volunteers and other community partners. The task is huge, our resources are limited, and the mission is critical. Churches, temples, synagogues & mosques that dot the tri-county public health region are encouraged to learn and be trained as PODs - to help save their congregations first - then extend this opportunity to their neighbors. Your help is needed! Please share this video on your favorite social media or email this blog post link your faith leaders to invite your congregation to become a POD in the next month or so. Volunteers are also needed to help raise awareness and invite more congregations to join this effort.
