Meeting New Friends Through Disaster Preparedness

It was good standing with my Muslim sisters yesterday ...

Our FIRST Love God Serve Together event at a Muslim Mosque in Norcross, GA was a great success!

We had 72 attendees that we could account for that day - representing 4 faith-based organizations from many counties. We even had one congregation member come all the way from Augusta, GA to learn how their organization can be trained to help with the disaster response effort should a pandemic or bio-terrorist attack occur in Metro-Atlanta.

Here are a few comments from those who have attended:

• Exceptional speakers! Very knowledgeable and interesting. Extremely encouraging & motivating.
• There needs to be more people at this event.
• This is a great start to be able to help others. I love that something, anything is happening.
• Really enjoyed chance to be with those of other faiths, appreciate the care and proactive attention on this issue.

When asked what were the the top 3 things they learned from today's event, here are some of their key learning noted:

• Helping in a medical emergency without having a medical background.
• Where to go to learn about helping out [when disaster strikes].
  
• I learned about PODs, how I can help & how to get started in helping others.
• People care...we can ALL help.
• How important and vital the faith-based community is in times of need (disaster).
• We can become a POD & help our community.

The Sugar Hill Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) registered today to be a local Closed/Hybrid Point of Dispensing (POD) organization with the Department of Public Health for Gwinnett, Newton & Rockdale counties.

Plans are under way to have the next LOVE GOD SERVE TOGETHER event sometime in March 2018.
