Imagine that you hear on CNN that there is a fast moving outbreak of the flu sweeping South East Asia... This flu is different... this flu is killing by the hundreds. The next day... local major news outlets are reporting that Gwinnett Medical Center & Northside Hospital have at least 2-5 cases of a similar flu...with dozens of healthcare workers quarantined - for possible risk exposure. Later in the day, the CDC confirms that the novel flu virus is now in Metro Atlanta... Public Health in Forsyth, Gwinnet, Hall, Newton & Rockdale counties the mandate to vaccinate their 1.5 million residents within 48 hours... And local news outlets broadcast this announcement: EVERYONE in these 5 counties - are to gather their loved ones - and DRIVE to Gwinnett Braves Stadium as soon as they can Can you imagine how hectic & chaotic it would be, if over a million people will try to get to the same place at around the same time - with all their families? Christmas shopping at the Mall of Georgia would pale in comparison to this scenario! Now here's another scenario with the same flu outbreak... Wouldn't it be great if we all hear the local news outlets instructing everyone to: Go to your city or county websites. Find a list of churches, temples, synagogues and mosques in your community - who are trained & ready to administer these life-saving vaccinations. To be safe, these need to get done within 48 hours. This last scenario is what we are planning for in our UPCOMING EVENT. YOU are invited to come with 5 - 10 of your church, temple, synagogue or mosque leaders to the LOVE GOD. SERVE TOGETHER event on 10/14 from 10AM - 12 NOON - to learn how you and your congregation can help save thousands of lives within your community - when such a disaster occurs. Click the button below to register - and share this blog with your leaders (so they can register too.) Your help is much needed TODAY! CLARIFICATION received on 10/5/17 from Mark Reiswig, CHEP, GA-CEM, Director of Emergency Preparedness
Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale County Health Departments The 48 hour window only pertains to dispensing antibiotics in the wake of an anthrax attack. In the case of a novel flu it would take months for the CDC to even come up with an effective vaccine, then months more to get everyone vaccinated. Still a massive job, but a different time frame.
